Easy Health Tips That Will Change Your Life

Let's face it: Life is busy. With all of our to-do lists piling up, undergoing a major health overhaul can seem a little daunting and unrealistic. The good news is you can take baby-steps that can dramatically improve your energy, reduce your waistline and help you burn unwanted fat. You can improve the quality of your life by putting the nutrition tips below into action.

1. Put a dot on your hand. Often times, we fall into an unhealthy trap of overeating and weight gain from being so busy that we are not conscious of our food choices. Instead of practicing thoughtful eating, we tend to grab quick pick-me-ups, like coffee or sugary and starchy snacks. To snap yourself back to awareness eating, the first step is to put a dot of ink on your hand. For the next three days, prior to eating anything, look at your hand and ask yourself two following questions;

• Am I really hungry?

• How will this food make me feel 20 minutes from now?

If you are not hungry and the food you are about to eat will make you feel bloated, guilty, tired or mentally foggy, put it down. At its most fundamental level, food is meant to be the source of fuel for your body. Any side effects that occur from a meal are typically from over-consuming (i.e. portion distortion) or by choosing the wrong foods.

2. Cut your caloric intake by 10 per cent. One of the largest bodies of research in the study of nutrition clearly identifies that mildly cutting back on the calories you take in is one of the greatest techniques to ward off disease and prolong your life. This is not to suggest that you should go on a fad diet that advocates strict caloric limitations (so, no 600 calories per day madness). However, by making the right small choices, you can eat until you are sufficiently sufficed, not stuffed! Start implementing this simple tip by leaving a little bit of food behind on your plate at each meal, trimming down your protein size by an ounce or so, or by eating one piece of instead of two (try an open-face sandwich at lunch). You'll soon realize your body doesn’t need as much food as you were giving it.

3. Drink it up. There's no faster way to increase energy, lose weight and optimize digestion than to increase your daily intake of water. I can't tell you how many weight-loss seekers I see who drink almost no water. In order to start making a habit of drinking water, feel free to jazz it up with a small amount of juice, some fresh mint or slices of lemon or lime. I also recommend investing in a water system in your home – anything from a charcoal filtered system to a reverse osmosis dispensary. The more water is available to you, the more likely it will become something you get used to.

4. Finish your day off as healthy as you start it. Lots of my weight-loss clients start their day off beautifully, with yogurt, a protein shake or eggs, only to finish it off with a huge dinner, overconsuming and emotionally eating the wrong foods at night (cookies, cereal, crackers and cheese). Does this sound familiar to you? If so, it would be beneficial to start keeping a food journal. The path to getting more energy and a flatter stomach is to ensure that dinner time is early and not heavy in calories, fat and starches. If you're at the office until late, eat a snack later in the afternoon to ensure you're not ravenous by the time you get home; when you're that hungry, it's very difficult to make the right food choices. For optimal health, eat light and lean in the evening.

5. Eat something "live" at every meal. We benefit from the vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and hydration that comes from eating fresh fruits and vegetables. How can we expect to feel alive if we do not eat alive? Part of eating a live food at every meal involves preparation, so once you get your fresh produce home, cut up your broccoli, carrots, cucumbers and celery for nutrient-dense, calorie-light snacking options. Keep grapefruits, apples, grapes, oranges and an assortment of fresh and frozen berries on hand to toss into your morning smoothie or yogurt. When eating out, always opt for the side salad instead of the starchy fries that will sap your energy and clog up your digestion.

Remember

We can all use a little health pick-me-up from time to time, but often feel too busy to start. Simply implementing the five steps above can have an enormous benefit to the way you feel, move and think on a daily basis. Changing the quality of your food will change the quality of your life!

Elegance and class was obviously not in the memo. I was not impressed by what the guests turned up in, most of them could only be described as a hot mess. You can make up your own minds.

Jim Iyke's 'fiancee' claims she was acting out a script on his Reality Show

Keturah is in a new, reality-based show called “Diamonds in the Rough” while Jim Iyke claimed that he is still in a relationship with his Jamaican fiancee, Keturah Hamilton. Her representatives have fired back, releasing a statement that implied that the two were no longer an item, while insinuating that the Nollywood star’s reality show is all acted.

The statement read:

Keturah Hamilton, Model, Actress, and Ex-Fiancée of Jim Iyke is ready to tell the real story after the Jim Iyke Unscripted show that was aired on April 17, 2013.

In a world where reality shows are an “In-thing” and bad behavior becomes the A.M. topic to cover, leave it to Jim Iyke Unscripted or better said the “_Scripted_” show to deliver real life drama. The episode that aired on April 17, 2013, did not disappoint the viewers who were glued to their TV’s watching Keturah Hamilton’s role that was none the less excellent! She was really able to bring her character to the next level of entertainment.

Keturah Hamilton had acted out an edgy script of jealousy and rage towards Jim Iyke, that was delivered as well as any actress in Hollywood. Keturah was so good that even her fans were astonished to see how well she acted and was able to challenge Jim on his bad behavior. Boldly, Jim gave Keturah the opportunity to exit the reality show based on the controversial episode. Even though a pre-recorded version of “Kiss and Make-up” was on stand-by to be aired, Keturah already had made her decision.

For the time being, Jim Iyke and Keturah Hamilton are no longer together because in reality, Jim’s bad boy behavior was just too overwhelming for the reality star. Keturah has decided to move on to the bigger and better things that her heart has long been looking to do. She quotes, “I wish Jim well on his show and hope that he matures into the man I always wanted him to be!”

ACN Calls Jonathan’s Plan to Spy on Nigerians ‘Evil,’ Calls on Citizens To Speak Up Before It Is Too Late

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has condemned as ‘evil,’ the reported $40 million Internet Surveillance Contract that will enable the government to invade the privacy of citizens, calling on the National Assembly, civil liberties organisations, professional groups and ordinary citizens to speak out before it is too late.

In a statement issued in Lagos by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, ACN noted that since the emergence of reports of the contract, which is said to have been awarded to an Israeli firm, it has yet to be denied, an indication that it is safe to assume that it is indeed true.

Describing such a development as an unprecedented assault on the civil rights of Nigerian citizens by the Jonathan Administration, ACN said this marks the beginning of what is sure to be the curtailment of the right to freedom of speech and expression and the freedom of the press, in addition to the invasion of citizens' privacy, among other implications.

Probe me, not my aides, Obasanjo dares Jonathan

The cold war between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Goodluck Jonathan Administration came again to the fore on Sunday at a thanksgiving service held in honour of a former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, in Abuja.
At the service that had many eminent Nigerians, including a former Head of the Service of the Federation, Steve Oronsaye, and ex-Attorney General of Federation and Minister of Justice, Kanu Agabi, in attendance, Obasanjo said if the Goodluck Jonathan administration was keen on probing his government, it should come after him instead of people that served under him.
He also flayed the plan by the Federal Government to set up a pipeline protection agency, saying it was another avenue for corruption.
But Obasanjo’s comments drew the ire of the Presidency which said no past administration, either past or present, should be afraid of probe. It also advised the former President to allow Jonathan to do his work.

A Girl Should Be Two Things: Classy and Fabulous......Coco Chanel

The above quote is one of fashion’s most famous for a reason – it’s true. Following trends and looking “of the moment” is fun, but it’s even more important to understand the style rules that stand the test of time. Classic fashion icons like Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, and Coco Chanel aren’t revered today because they were fashion victims who only wore the latest clothes. Instead, they understood basic, indisputable fashion rules and how to use them.

Instead of talking about the latest trends, today I want to focus on something more lasting – a list of 10 fashion tips that will never go out of style. I’m sure none of these rules are brand new to you guys, but since we’re always talking about trends, I thought it would be nice to remind ourselves what real style is.

1. The hourglass figure is forever in.

Marilyn Monroe knew this rule best – her curvy hourglass look has had men lusting after her and women wanting to be her for half a century! Marilyn’s look has forever solidified her as one of the sexiest woman in history. Learn from Ms. Monroe and realize that the hourglass shape is always flattering on any woman. When in doubt, look for clothes that nip in at the waist and draw attention to that area. Not blessed with Marilyn-esque curves? Fake it with a great belt or high waisted skirt.

2. You can’t go wrong with a little black dress.

If you only learn one thing from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s, let this be it. Ever since Audrey Hepburn sported that iconic raven Givenchy frock, the LBD has become a closet staple for every woman.

If you don’t own a little black dress yet, what’s stopping you? These dresses are always available in stores. If you want a piece that will stand the test of time, however, you’ll have to veer away from the discount shops & spend a little more for a dress that’s well-made. The extra effort will pay off, though, when you have that dress for the rest of your life.

3. Don’t be too perfect.

Genevieve exemplifies this rule – she always looks amazing and NEVER comes off like she tried too hard. No matter what she’s wearing, something about her look is always “off” – her hair will be a mess, her shoes won’t match, or she’ll leave something unbuttoned. The best part? Instead of looking bad, she actually looks BETTER and more stylish than if she was perfectly coiffed and buttoned up.

So take a hint from Genevieve and give up the quest for perfection once in a while. First of all, it’s useless – no one is perfect and no one will EVER be perfect! Second, imperfection is HOT in fashion. Whenever you get dressed, make sure something is off and you’ll score extra style points.

4. Embrace your so-called “flaws.”

Society likes to try and convince us that we should all look like Barbie – tall, thin and baby-faced, with doll-like features, flawless skin, and 36D breasts. This is such crap! In reality, the ways that we differ from the “beauty ideal” are what truly make us beautiful.

Think about all the famously gorgeous women who have embraced their “imperfections” – Cindy Crawford and her mole, Nse Etim and her gap teeth, Grace Jones and those amazing cheekbones, Cher and her nose, and the list goes on! Can you even imagine them without those unique features? It’s hard to do, but just thinking about it makes me laugh – they would all look so BORING!

5. A large, dark pair of sunglasses will hide a multitude of sins.

Another style lesson you can learn from the movies – big, fabulous, dark sunglasses are your best friend during dire fashion emergencies. Didn’t get enough sleep? Don’t feel like putting makeup on? Sunglasses are a quick, easy fix. No one has to know about your late night! Even better, they always add a dash of sophisticated glamor to any look. If you simply want to feel a little more like a star, slip on a dark pair of shades and some pearls and do your best Jackie O impression.

6. Be different.

As Coco Chanel once said, “In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.” In high school we’re taught to follow the crowd and strive to fit in. In the real world, being different is the key to success in almost every area. Contrary to what most of us learn in our formative years, uniqueness is an asset. This is true in fashion and everywhere else in life.

So what is it about you that makes you unique? What traits do you have that no one else does? How does your style differ from the girl sitting next to you? Think about those traits and strive to make them MORE pronounced, not less. For more on embracing your uniqueness and finding your own style, see 7 Ways to Create a Wardrobe That’s Uniquely Yours.

7. Denim is forever.

An eternal staple of fashion, a good pair of jeans is one fashion item that will never die. From Kate Moss’ Calvin Klein Jeans ads (who didn’t want a pair of those jeans?) to James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause, the man who officially made jeans badass, denim has taken on so many forms over the years. The eternally stylish Jackie O showed us the chicer side of denim. It’s the one fabric that has never fully gone out of style.

Today, denim is practically a daily uniform, and would you really have it any other way? As Diana Vreeland once said, “Blue jeans are the most beautiful thing since the gondola.” I tend to agree.

8. Be who you want to be & reinvent yourself.

There are no limits to who you can become in life. Madonna, dubbed the “queen of reinvention” by many a critic, has transformed herself numerous times over the years – from a platinum blonde material girl to a wannabe geisha to a rhinestone cowgirl and back again. Her style always keeps us guessing, and that’s part of what draws us to her.

There’s no rule that says you need to dress only one way or strive to fit any mold. Why simply settle for being average? Take action and don’t be afraid to dress the way you want and transform yourself into whoever you want. Be an ingenue one day and a femme fatale the next, if that’s what you feel like doing. Dream big and let your style reflect who you are and who you want to be at the same time.

9. Simpler can be better.

Eku Edewor

While the bag lady look may certainly be fashionable, in truth, you don’t need layers and layers of clothes to make a statement. The simplest, most basic outfits are often the best, most memorable ones. Think about fashion’s most iconic looks – from Audrey in her little black dress to Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction. We remember those looks not because the clothes were amazing, but because the people wearing them had personality!

Sometimes it’s nice to keep your outfit simple. It offers you the chance to let your personality shine through, whether it’s through your amazing cocktail ring that suddenly stands out or the smile on your face that’s no longer overshadowed by an overdone outfit. Remember: you’re the one who wears the clothes – they should never wear you.

10. Confidence & a smile are your most fabulous accessories.

Do I need to explain this one? If the fashion and beauty icons of the past and present could teach us only one thing, this would surely be it. All the clothes and beauty products in the world mean NOTHING if you’re miserable and uncomfortable in your own skin. Love yourself, be confident, smile, laugh, and never take life too seriously – those are the true ingredients of lasting beauty and style. Everything else is just the icing on the cake.
