Learn CPR In Three Easy Steps: If There Was A Need, Could You Save Someone's Life.

To be quite honest I haven't got a clue how to perform CPR and it occurred to me that someone might actually need it and I wouldn't have a clue what to do. There is a thin line between life and death, I wouldn't want someone to cross that line because I couldn't take a couple of minutes out to learn how to perform CPR.

13-Year-Old Saves Dad’s Life With CPR

Shardae Simmonds was only 10 years old when she first learned how to perfrom CPR. Three years later, her training came in handy when her father, Glen Simmonds, passed out in their home from a heart attack.

On February 15th, Shardae’s mother informed her that her father had passed out in their bedroom. Shardae called 911 and performed CPR until the ambulance arrived. That action saved his life.

Nothing beats proper training but this is a step in the right direction.

1. CALL

Check the victim for unresponsiveness. If the person is not responsive and not breathing or not breathing normally. Call the emergency and return to the victim. In most locations the emergency dispatcher can assist you with CPR instructions.

2. PUMP

If the victim is still not breathing normally, coughing or moving, begin chest compressions. Push down in the center of the chest 2 inches 30 times. Pump hard and fast at the rate of at least 100/minute, faster than once per second.

3. BLOW

Tilt the head back and lift the chin. Pinch nose and cover the mouth with yours and blow until you see the chest rise. Give 2 breaths. Each breath should take 1 second.

CONTINUE WITH 30 PUMPS AND 2 BREATHS UNTIL HELP ARRIVES

NOTE: This ratio is the same for one-person & two-person CPR. In two-person CPR the person pumping the chest stops while the other gives mouth-to-mouth breathing.
