Peoples Republic of China has established an ammunition production line in Nigeria, through the production facilities of DICON, to upgrade indigenous defence industry.
Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) spokesman, Senior Colonel Kang Honglin reported on this opening at a reception to mark the 86th Anniversary of PLA.
Colonel Honglin told that most of the PLA peacekeepers are deployed in Africa. He also pointed out that China is the biggest troop contributor among the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.
Colonel Honglin stated: "For years, PLA provides Nigerian military personnel with opportunities to participate in training courses at different levels in China.
"There is also a significant collaboration in defence product. For instance, F-7 fighter squadron has become the backbone of Nigeria Air Force. One ammunition production line has been established at DICON with assistance of China, which will upgrade Nigerian indigenous defence industry.
"The construction work of Nigerian Navy's offshore patrol vessels is going well in China and the first ship will be delivered next year."
"We believe that these fruits of the collaboration can effectively help Nigerian military to strengthen its capacity and capability in safeguarding peace and maintaining stability in Nigeria and in the region," he added.
Military my foot. Every Tom, Olu and wale will own guns as they do in the United States. Then watch what happens in a country ridden with poverty, hunger and high unemployment.
